Sessile drop evaporation in a gap – crossover between diffusion-limited and phase transition-limited regime

چکیده

We consider the time evolution of a sessile drop volatile partially wetting liquid on rigid solid substrate. The evaporates under strong confinement, namely, it sits one two parallel plates that form narrow gap. First, we develop an efficient mesoscopic long-wave description in gradient dynamics form. It couples diffusive vertically averaged vapour density gap to equation for profile drop. underlying free energy functional incorporates wetting, interface and bulk energies gas entropy. model allows us investigate transition between diffusion-limited phase transition-limited evaporation shallow droplets. Its character as well full-curvature formulation. Second, compare results obtained with corresponding direct numerical simulations solving Stokes coupled diffusion selected experiments. In passing, discuss influence contact line pinning.

Dynamic Phase Transitions in Diffusion - Limited Reactions

Many non-equilibrium systems display dynamic phase transitions from active to absorbing states, where fluctuations cease entirely. Based on a field theory representation of the master equation, the critical behavior can be analyzed by means of the renormalization group. The resulting universality classes for single-species systems are reviewed here. Generically, the critical exponents are those...

Phase transition in annihilation-limited processes

A system of particles is studied in which the stochastic processes are one-particle type-change (or one-particle diffusion) and multi-particle annihilation. It is shown that, if the annihilation rate tends to zero but the initial values of the average number of the particles tends to infinity, so that the annihilation rate times a certain power of the initial values of the average number of the...

The Kramers Problem in the Energy-diffusion Limited Regime

The Kramers problem in the energy-diffusion limited regime of very low friction is difficult to deal with analytically because of the repeated recrossings of the barrier that typically occur before an asymptotic rate constant is achieved. Thus, the transmission coefficient of particles over the potential barrier undergoes oscillatory behavior in time before settling into a steady state. Recentl...

A Diffusion-Limited Reaction

Fluctuations in diffusion-controlled reactions lack the necessary features for a mesoscopic description. We show how the correlations dominate the dynamics by juxtaposing the macroscopic dynamics of a cellular automaton model for the diffusion-controlled limit to the deterministic diffusion-reaction rate equation for the same reaction. A more detailed N-body master equation is then presented in...

Scale Invariance and Dynamic Phase Transitions in Diffusion-Limited Reactions

Many systems that can be described in terms of diffusion-limited ‘chemical’ reactions display non-equilibrium continuous transitions separating active from inactive, absorbing states, where stochastic fluctuations cease entirely. Their critical properties can be analyzed via a path-integral representation of the corresponding classical master equation, and the dynamical renormalization group. A...
